380. Daryl Davis

Daryl is a big baseball fan, and he hoped to go to a Yankees game since he has never seen a professional baseball game. Stella’s Wish made this happen by sending Daryl and Kristen to New York. They were able to watch the Yankees game and even went on the field for batting practice!

“The trip was great! The Yankees were wonderful and generous with their time. Batting practice was surreal because when you’re down in the field, you realize how huge the stadium is and how far they are hitting those balls lol!

We got to meet and get a picture with Anthony Volpe which was fantastic! Our seats were phenomenal too! You could see everything! We also were given a tour of the press box, press room and met the sports about we for WFAN radio, who Daryl regularly listens to if the games aren’t on networks we have access to. It was all very cool!

Logistics of traveling there were a bit challenging due to Daryl’s current state but we managed. Thankfully we decided to bring a transport chair to get him around. Otherwise, it would have been very difficult. It’s NY after all….not very ADA friendly lol.

Thank you so much for everything!! Daryl really enjoyed the experience and we are both so grateful for the generosity and kindness from you and Stella’s Wish. It was definitely an experience we won’t forget! ” 🙏🙏🩷

375. Deborah Richardson

Deb Richardson is a 63-year-old patient with Stage IV Small Cell Lung Cancer. She was diagnosed at the age of 62. She has undergone extensive chemotherapy and now is on palliative treatment. She is married, the mother of 2 adult sons and 2 grandchildren 7 and 9. She has lived in rural Maine her whole life grew up in the town of Brownfield and now lives in the adjoining town of Denmark. She worked as a CNA home health aide for most of her career and was working at a convenient store at the time of diagnosis.

Both Deb and her husband Phil are active in the community. Deb’s father-in-law started the children’s fishing derby in town and Deb and Phil have continued to hold it yearly to benefit the Denmark Lions. Phil is part of the Denmark Fire Department and Deb stated she is not, but I know she gives ongoing support to the Department in a variety of ways. One way was driving one of the trucks in an ice storm to a home fully engulfed and they did not have enough crew to go get it. Deb may not officially be part of multiple groups in the community, but she is often seen lending a hand when needed.

When talking with Deb about bucket list items due to having serious aggressive cancer, she stated she always dreamed of a beach vacation. Her friends investigated beach vacations in Maine and found a unit 90 feet from the beach, as walking any distance causes her to get very winded.

Deb has remained upbeat and kept a positive attitude throughout this journey. She plans to make things for her family and record some videos for her grandkids. Her biggest wish is to make some memories with family in the time she has left going to where she has always dreamed about, the beach!

The foundation has granted their wish and Deb’s family will spend 7 nights at Old Orchard Beach in Maine.

374. Megan VanHorn

Friends of Megan’s who have worked with her at school submitted a wish on her behalf to give her family a chance to make a lasting memory with her. Megan is a mother of four young children, who is currently facing a battle with stage 4 cancer. Megan worked as a teacher’s aide for many years, and recently finished getting her certified nurses assistant degree. Megan has also been involved in supporting local youth. She has volunteered in a local program that serves close to 100 young children in our small rural area. The family has faced financial struggles. It very cold in Iowa during the winter, so a stay somewhere warm is a big treat to anyone who lives there. Megan’s children are young so her friends suggested that a couple of days at Universal Studios, with more days of relaxing at the hotel, might be the best way to enjoy each other on limited energy supplies.

Stella’s Wish has granted their request to send Megan and her kids to Universal Studios in Orlando and stay at the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. We hope that this trip will be a very meaningful and precious memory to a family that has been such an integral part of their small town.
